BUT Mesures Physiques

Course Details

Objectives : The BUT Physical Measurements aims to train versatile senior technicians who carry out and use measurements: these call on a broad spectrum of knowledge in the fields of physics, chemistry, materials, electronics and technology. IT, as well as skills focused on industrial control, metrology, instrumentation, characterization of physical and physico-chemical quantities and environmental measurements.

This involves studying the standards, carrying out checks, and checking whether the measurement carried out is valid or not. These checks can be carried out on prototypes in research and development, particularly in all areas of physics and chemistry.

Degree Level (EU) : 6 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Acquired skills during the training : The training is made up of teaching units validating 5 skills:
- Carry out a measurement campaign
- Deploy metrology and quality approach
- Implement a measurement and instrumentation chain
- Characterize physical, chemical quantities and the properties of a material
- Define specifications in the field of measurement and in the environment

Specific skills :
- Analysis, design and implementation of a measurement chain
- Analyze the need and identify the quantities to be characterized
- Implement techniques for measuring quantities, taking into account metrological constraints
- Choose devices and methods according to their characteristics and needs
- Validate the chosen protocol, follow the instructions and procedures and carry out the measurement
- Check the consistency of the results and orders of magnitude
- Store results and make them accessible

Targeted careers : Instrumentation Techniques Course
This course aims to train senior technicians who are experts in the implementation of a measurement, regulation and management chain. These versatile technicians carry out and use measurements which call upon a broad spectrum of knowledge in the fields of physics, electronics, photonics, automation as well as signal and image processing.
The main industrial sectors of activity are mainly those of the automobile, aeronautics, aerospace, but also the agri-food, environmental and energy sectors.

Materials and physico-chemical controls course
This course aims to train senior technicians who are experts in measuring the properties of materials (metals, alloys, polymers, etc.) and in chemical analysis. These versatile technicians carry out and use measurements which call upon a broad spectrum of knowledge in the fields of physics, spectroscopy, mechanics, thin layers and photonics.

Graduates can continue their studies or work professionally in production, maintenance or research and development. Jobs are located in the automobile, aeronautics, space industry, optics, chemistry, biomedical, agri-food, environmental and energy sectors.
