Ingénieur-e INSA Mécatronique

Course Details

Objectives : The mechatronics engineer develops systems by combining from the design stage the different disciplines of mechanics, electronics, computer science and automation. It intervenes throughout the life cycle of industrial products: research and development, preliminary design, development, industrialization, operation.

INSA Strasbourg was the first French establishment to graduate students in mechatronics, in 1994.

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Acquired skills during the training : From the 2nd year, students approach mechatronic design with the development of simple mobile robots. Mechanics, electronics and programming are then combined to produce prototypes. From year 3 to year 5, they carry out more complex developments, working in groups. The devices developed can for example be drones, gyropods or electric vehicles with driving assistance.
The drone project is an example of an interdisciplinary project. Since 2002, the project has brought together the specialties of mechatronics, electrical engineering and, depending on needs, students in mechanical engineering or topography, for example.

Targeted careers : Mechatronics is present in all major sectors of industry: transport, consumer goods, capital goods, etc. Robots, autonomous vehicles, components such as active suspensions are examples of the results of a mechatronics approach. The mechatronics engineer can therefore find his place in a large number of sectors of activity.
